Trevor

I thought now would be a good time to inform everyone on Trevor.
In May Trevor had a small incident with a child size shopping cart and a curb. Can we say OUCHY!!!! After the accident there was a few tears but he seemed to be fine so I gave him a nice scoop up and placed him in the adult sized cart and away we went. The next day his left knee was very swollen and warm to the touch. So like any good Momma I gave him some pain pills, ice, and rest.  The next day he was completely back to normal.  Then four days later Trevor woke up in severe pain, a very very swollen, left hot knee.  After a quick discussion with Dad, Trevor and I were off to see the pediatrician.  She took a quick look and sent Trevor straight to radiology for some ex-rays and then to an Orthopedist.  The ex-rays showed his knee to be fine but the Orthopedist was very worried that Trevor might have an infection in his knee so he recommended that Trevor have his knee drained.  Trevor was not comfortable with the idea of his knee being drained in the office and the Orthopedist was not all that comfortable with draining the knee in the office either so He scheduled Trevor for surgery the next morning. By this point my head was spinning I was not expecting Trevor would be having surgery just over a swollen knee.
Trevor's surgery went wonderful.  The nurses told us all kinds of ways children react to anesthesia and how awful wake ups can be on kids.  Well lets just say they have never seen a Trevor.  They were expecting a sad fit throwing   child and they got a very sweet happy little boy.  Trevor thanked them for their kindness and was a very cuddly  little boy.  All of the nurses that took care of Trevor and the Doctor too were very touched by Trevor's sweet gentle spirit and all of them came and told us what a sweet child Trevor is.
Trevor was up playing and walking normal for the next few days after surgery and then day four came.  Once again I awoke to a child crying in pain and once again a very hot swollen knee.  I called the Doctors and they told me to bring him in.  They said he was fine.  That he most likely had some Arthritis or something else going on.
Since June Trevor has gotten much much worse.  There are days he can not walk,  he wakes up in extreme pain almost every day.  It is hours before he is able to get around on his own if at all that day.  His body is wasting, and the wonderful light in his eyes is growing dim.  I have taken him to lots of doctors trying to get answers and a diagnoses.  In July our Pediatrician asked me how I felt about taking him to Seattle Childrens Hospital.  Calls were made to Seattle and due to his condition they took Trevor in on emergency.  Other wise it would have been the end of October before he could have gotten in.
We took a family Vacation to Seattle we arrived in the wee hours of the am in Seattle on August 21st.  Trevor's appointment was at 9am.  The staff at Children's are very organized and very kind.  We were told that Trevor's appointment would be 75 minutes.  His appointment was actually 31/2 hours long.  The Rheumatologist DR. Turnner was very thurel in her examination and listened to all of Eric and my concerns and everything we have ever seen and wondered about with Trevor.  The Doctor diagnosed Trevor with Juvenile Idiopathic Rheumatoid Arthritis.  (JIRA)  Trevor is considered sever and since more than 10 of his joints are greatly affected he will most likely have this the rest of his life.
Dr Turnner explained that Trevor is having what they call a flare and that there meds that can help stop the flare.  The meds. are very strong and have horrible side affects but with labs and frequent trips to Seattle most of the real bad side affects can be prevented.
Eric and I have spent several hours the last 10days talking and researching  Trevor's diagnoses and meds.  I was in hopes to find something more homeopathic for Trevor.  I talked to lots of different Specialists and they ALL suggested that we follow Seattle's treatment plan for now.  So today I got brave and started Trevor on the meds.  Do to a shortage of Prednisone Trevor has to swallow two Prednisone pills twice a day that is 4
pills for my little boy to swallow everyday instead of 2,  and once a week Eric will give him a shot of Mehotrexate. Trevor is a trooper.  He is taking all of this in stride.  I hope that Trevor will start to feel better in the next few days.
Thank you for all of your support and prayers.
